1st time trying this place out. We ordered 4 dishes: ants on the tree, sweet and sour pork spare ribs, chicken with nuts and chili, and special friend rice/ chicken. 4/3/4/2 stars respectively. A little too much salt, some over done, some just lacking an ingredient to pull it all together.
Service was prompt and professional, with timely follow ups. The atmosphere of the place is standard red Chinese with flourishes but nothing stirring. The owners seemed to be watching everyone from the bar/control booth the whole time.
There's a fenced parking lot with many spaces. 3 steps to go up to enter, which a person in a wheel chair did come through (with assistance) while we were there.
Lighting was lower and diffused which I appreciate. No music. Separate lavatories. Meals were reasonably priced. I would try again, but wouldn't rush to it.

Been going here ever since I can remember but lately it has been very sad experiences. The decor needs a little update as it's the exact same as it's always been. The atmosphere is a little tense inside and owner hardly ever greets even though he's always standing watching. The food is not what it used to be and isn't consistent in flavour, although portion sizes for the price are fair.

Gonna give it a 4 star. Come on - it’s Chinese food in Malawi!!! I had the special filet mignon sizzling beef, ants on leaves appetizer and a “spring roll” that was actually a blah fried egg roll.
Great attentive staff, food hot and good , prices ridiculously low.

Descent food... particularly liked the ants on the tree... a friend i was dining with kept raving about the sauce.
Huge portions as ia customary for Chinese restaurants. I was super hungry when i got in but a started and soup was sufficient to fill me up.
The ambiance was the least favorite of this place. The room felt stuffy. And the outside a little too deserted.
The staff were nice and food came quick.
It was around 8pm when I arrived at Hong Kong Restaurant on Sunday night. We were the only customers there. Waiter was quite attentive and food was fast. We got hot & sour soup and fried bamboo shoots and mushrooms as well as chicken with cashews. Food was decent and it's good for the prices we paid.
Traditional Chinese food - the interior of the restaurant is unfortunately from the last century - there is not really much going on. Nevertheless, there is good food - the price-performance is not outstanding - but lush. Leftovers are also gladly packed by the staff and can be taken away.
Food was decent and the service was great. Very attentive waiters. The ambience is quite gloomy though. The decor is terrible and there was a musty smell the entire time I was there. Nonetheless, the prices are super affordable.
Ordered orange chicken, Singapore noodles, Hong Kong Soup being a rice and shrimp soup, and dumplings. Orange chicken was tasty, uses the sugary orange sauce but it wasn't super sugary. Noodles were terrific with mushroom, noodles, sprouts, and a decent amount of spicy peppers and sauce. Soup was loved by my partner although he noted that the shrimp were a bit gummy. Dumplings are boiled. I liked the meat inside the dumplings. Have to be honest, I almost never like boiled casing. I have had worse dumplings in more expensive places though. The place was not too busy. We really enjoyed meeting the owner.
One of our favourite restaurants in malawi, don't care what anyone says we've always enjoyed the different meals offered on their menu, if you love Chinese food this is the one to go for,! The staff and management are very friendly will go a long way to ensure that you have a lovely meal and time in their restaurant! Definitely our favourite!
Huge disappointment. I ordered fried noodles with chicken, take-away. It tasted like fried oil and the pieces of chicken was tiny and had a weird flavour to it. Do not recommend this dish. I will not try this restaurant again.
