You can share perfectly cooked grilled octopus, shrimp salads and fish masala with your friends and spend a good time here. Degust good grilled pineapple, apple tarts and coconut ice cream this place offers. Here you may drink delicious whiskey sour, pale ale or pinot grigio. It might be nice to enjoy great matcha latte, caramel latte or iced green tea. Most guests consider the staff patient. There is a charming ambiance and cute decor at this spot. What a beautiful restaurant on Greenwich Ave! They have a great menu and really professional servers. Favorites included the Cuban and the croquette appetizer. The pear and cranberry crumble was such a cozy dessert! I’ll definitely be keeping this spot in mind for future Greenwich visits! I was jonesing for a delicious grilled fish taco and thrilled to learn that Happy Monkey was highly rated on the Find Me Gluten Free app. The menu was small but gave no clue that they offered gluten free. When I asked the server, though, she said they could do anything on the menu gluten free. She explained the fish taco would be grilled separately so that’s what I ordered. It was not traditional, not what I expected, but was still quite tasty. With the blue corn shell, vinegar, spice, and mint, it reminded me more of an Asian taco. Good but not what I was looking for. Plus, at $22 for 2 tacos, there was not even a garnish to make it feel a good value. The decor was fun. The host was friendly. The service was abrupt but efficient. Phenomenal job by Happy Monkey in helping us host an event - Food, Cocktails, and service were exceptional! There was plenty of natural seating that allowed a comfortable casual atmosphere while allowing plenty of room to mill around. Great space for a presentation and the acoustics were perfect! Special shout out to Jamie with events, Javi and Carlos at the bar, and Jordan and Dylan for managing the whole thing! To all the staff - above and beyond! Thank you for taking care of all the details and service so we could just enjoy! Big love to Erin and Andy! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Went for dinner with another couple. Arrived early and sat in the bar area which was lovely. Ordered a couple margaritas which were refreshing but not very strong. Sat on time after their initial dinner rush. Zero explanation of the menu, slow pace of food, encouraged to order some small stuff first. The food did not wow on any level. It was a nice room and ambiance but would not return on the basis of food and drink quality. Food was genuinely just okay. A nice-ish place to take your parents or friends who are not foodies and just want to try some Mexican(ish) food. Service is quite lacking but understandable as they just opened. Drinks were bad. Decor is very nice but it’s quite loud so I didn’t enjoy the ambiance that much. Food: The four of us ordered almost 50% of the menu so I’d say we got a good sample. Everything was pretty average except the garlic shrimp appetizer and the main dish arroz con pollo, which were very flavorful. The tacos were very average which was a letdown, since they seem to be a highlight on the menu. Here’s what we ordered: - Fritters (meh, skip) - fluke crudo (it’s okay) - garlic shrimp (good!) - mushroom with goat cheese (meh) - focaccia (good) - olives (okay) - heirloom tomato salad (could be great but overly spicy) - crispy fish tacos (meh, too much sour cabbage) - crispy pork tacos (meh) - shaved beef tacos (meh) - arroz con pollo (good!) - 3 desserts whose names I forgot (decent!) Drinks: the cocktails are bad. We ordered 4 of them and they are very heavily alcoholic and the flavor profile was not there. For this reason alone I wouldn’t return because what’s a nice Mexican meal without a good margarita? Service: When we first sat down, no one brought us any water or menus for a long time… I knew right then that service would be bad for the evening. This was proven true later when it took them 40 minutes to bring out the second batch of appetizers. Ambiance: very cute and trendy decor, but wayyy too loud. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
It is crazy to me that there are so many bad reviews of Happy Monkey. We've lived in Greenwich since 1996 and it is literally one of the best restaurants to occupy a spot on Greenwich Avenue. It's our favorite go to restaurant on the avenue; and it's consistently good. We've only experienced stellar service and the food is delicioso! I love that they offer a vegan chocolate dessert for us non-dairy customers! Food was excellent but service was slow. We waited a long time for our drinks and we almost finished our apps before we even received them. Sizzling Garlic Shrimp had an amazing sauce and was cooked perfectly, pistachio Guac was the best we’ve had all year. Pomegranate mezcal margarita was delicious! Passion Fruit was not drinkable. We split 3 of the tacos for dinner because two of the main entrees were “out” which were disappointed to hear. We really enjoyed the tacos, between the textures and flavors we were very satisfied. Chipotle chicken, shaved beef, crispy BBQ Pork - couldn’t pick a favorite! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Recommended dishes Shaved Beef Tacos
The tacos were very very good, however, $22 for 2 small tacos that left me hungry didn’t seem worth it. Although they were delicious, the price point was too high. The waiter was very nice and so was the atmosphere but I’m not sure id go here again if I were hungry, possibly somewhere to go just to snack on something with a friend. I have traveled extensively and have dined at many establishments. This is my first time leaving a review for a restaurant. I have had instances where one service person has been rude at an establishment and I could dismiss it as them having had a bad day. But when 4-5 people in the same establishment on the same visit are rude and dismissive I simply cannot ignore it. When they asked us if we were done they literally snatched the mats from under us. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks. Everything was handled poorly, rudely and in a dismissive manner. Although the food was good, I will not be setting foot in that establishment again. Sadly, this place was a bit overrated. The ambience was OK. My server was fine but I can't say I was blown away by the service or the food. My favorite dish was definitely the guacamole. Everything else was so-so. I should mention I'm vegan, so did not try any of the non-vegan dishes Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes Olives
