Absolutely stellar food and service. We enjoyed learning more about the history of this building, and our server Sebastian did a fantastic job narrating the history as well as the components of each dish. The food was also wonderful and the pictures don't really do it justice. Can't recommend this place highly enough, just be sure to book in advance.

100% recommend this place. We had the set menu with wine pairing and it was really tasty. The place itself is super comfortable and has very cosy vibes. The staff is very nice too!

I am SO IMPRESSED with how good a restaurant can be in the middle of absolute nowhere! Gruvelageret is truly a hidden gem, and I wish more people would visit Longyearbyen to check out this restaurant!
When driving up the long gravel road, you start to think to yourself how on Earth there is a restaurant at the top…and when you get to the top, it literally is a tiny shack on the side of the mountain! The whole concept for Gruvelageret is it was once a small building that miners used when that was the main industry of Svalbard. It started falling apart, and a few years back the owner of this restaurant bought the abandoned building and restored it to its former glory. You feel like you stepped back in time when you enter this restaurant!
The best thing is the fact that despite the atmosphere feeling old-timey, the food is NOT! It is highly creative, Michelin-worthy food that is on par with all of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at! The set menu we chose had so many unique combinations of ingredients and spices, local Svalbard food, and it all just worked so well! Entirely worth the price!
The drinks were wonderful, the staff was top-notch (so friendly and made you feel right at home), and you even ended off your meal with the staff telling the story of how this restaurant came to be. I wish I could go back tomorrow. This is a saved place that I will never forget. I can’t wait to visit Longyearbyen again one day to eat at this incredible restaurant once again! 🤩

Booked a table 4 months in advance and just got it cancelled because they booked in a private event knowing we had a table for 6 booked. So be aware if you are planning to travel to Svalbard your reservation at this venue is not to be relied on.
A trip to Svalbard is such a unique experience, full of firsts and surprises… Yet it was very easy for me to point to my best time on the island : a dinner at Gruvelageret!
The food was sophisticated, creative but without spacrificing any the pure enjoyment of good flavours. The service was some of the kindest I have encountered in Scandinavia - that’s a high bar. Highly recommended.
