There were a lot of signs about it being a co op and when I went in I was worried I would not be allowed to shop without a membership. I was very happy to find out that anyone can shop here!
If you’re looking for a quick bit to eat for breakfast or lunch, if you need snacks, or you want something you can’t find at a bigger grocer, this is the place! The prices were reasonable and the quality of the things I tried were exceptional.
I had a breakfast sandwich that I’m still thinking about a day later. I think they might have cut open an avocado just for my order it tasted so fresh! I got a bacon egg and cheese with avocado, I can’t remember what it was called and I added the bacon to the order but it was amazing. Thinking about that sandwich makes me sad I live two hours away.
I was looking for some fun snacks and found some great chocolate covered pretzels and vegan cheese puffs. They had a great mineral water selection, lots of vegan and gluten free options, and were very busy for lunch time but moving the lines efficiently.
There are 3 different check out areas - two at the front of the store and one in the back of the store. For the ones in the front, you line up facing the door. I was confused with it being my first time there and when I didn’t understand the directions I got from the woman who took my sandwich order and a regular customer offered to show me around before she could! Everyone was so friendly and nice in here from the staff to the customers. I felt overwhelmingly welcomed.
The positives of the store are it's clean, well lit, in a convenient location. Expect to pay at least twice what other natural food stores charge. Do not expect friendliness from the employees. Do not expect friendliness from the customers. Do not expect friendliness from the homeless people camped outside the front door. This is a store that has completely forgotten its humble roots and its first customers.
This place makes me want to move to Greenfield. I'm glad to see they will be moving into a larger building, perhaps next year. This place is a great healthy food and supplements store with outstanding grab and go fresh food. I ate two meals a day here during my five day retreat in nearby Deerfield. I'll definitely be coming back. I wish this food cooperative existed on the South Shore of Massachusetts where I live. A true community asset. Friendly and community based. One highlight is the hot soups. This is no soup in a bag. I really felt nourished by these soups which were full of vegetables. Also, if you are on a diet of keto, paleo, no grains, no sugar, etc. , note that there are easy grab and go proteins in the cooler.
