The pot roast was tender, the veggies needed more cooked time. The baked apples were a hit. My teenagers enjoyed fried chicken, chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, cheesy pizza slice, apple pie, fried catfish. The panko on the fried shrimp was VERY LOUD and Crunchy. Newly renovated restaurant looks great until you hit the restrooms. Almost every stall had a fecal mess left behind and debris and filth all over the floor. This was my first time in the South. The food was okay. The fried green tomatoes were great. I loved the fried fish. I really wanted tacos, and they were not up to standard. I will try other places while I'm here. So far, I'm not impressed with the South. The people have been wonderful, though. It's always a pleasure for the hubby and I to visit the Golden Corral. Shawna is the BEST server, with a ready smile, personable conversation, and an offer of help. She is a credit in the assurance that my hubby has a good meal, engagement, and a safe place to eat. Thank you to all the wait staff, preparation staff, cook crew, and everyone who works there. Once again, my sweet hubby is treated as the precious treasure I think he is. He loves the family cooking, and his every once in a while treat of peach cobbler and ice cream. My wife, young child and I got seated and had plenty of time for a full and detailed conversation while enjoying the freshly-renovated atmosphere before we were ever greeted at our table. We were waiting for our drink orders, silverware, and my son needed a high chair. The buffet seemed to be needing a lot of TLC, possibly due to understaffing in the kitchen. During our meal we were checked on once and my wife had to ask for used dishes to be taken away. No drink refills or anything. All this while most every other party in our section were served attentively. As much as I hate to play the race card, we couldn't help but notice these other patrons had something in common with the serving staff that we didn't. I will say, this is not nearly indicative of the experience of my past couple of visits to this location, but this one was enough to consider a bridge burned. If it's true that you get what you pay for, I think I'll pay a little more to take my family somewhere else where we feel valued. GC, enjoy your extra star. I'm feeling generous today.
