The food was surprisingly good. The chips were the best in the area and salsa and queso had a little spice to then which was nice. They are only serving food in to go containers/paper plates due to staffing shortage, so the fajitas don’t come out sizzling like you’re likely used to. We had to order at the counter but after that is was full service. The server was excellent and super friendly. It is a small indoor seating area, but at this point we will be back because honestly papas and beer hasn’t been great for a while. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

My husband and I just happened upon this place and ordered a few tacos to go. They were absolutely amazing and I can say without exaggeration that it was the best taco I ever ate. Needless to say, we went back for more the same night. I have recommended to every person I know that’s going to Waynesville for any reason. The folks are very nice and the food is amazing! Highly recommend! Service Take out Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Taco

We recently rediscovered El pobre restaurant for the first time since they closed during the pandemic. We have ate at Papa's & and Beer and Los Amigos numerous times since then. Everything was awesome!.. the quesadilla Rica, beef and bean burrito, enchilada, beef taco. .. The grilled chicken is cooked and seasoned perfectly. Unlike Papa's and Beer bland, dry grilled chicken I know good food. I used to have my own restaurant The chips and salsa are the best in comparison to the other two restaurants. The chips are thin and crispy. The cheese sauce is awesome Loved the refried beans. The only shortcoming was the rice was a little on the mushy side. This was probably an exception. Everything else made up for it. The night we went they were short-staffed and we had to order at the counter and our food was brought out on paper plates with plastic utensils. The food and great service made up for it. Thanks Ell Pobre! You're number one! .. again Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20 Recommended dishes Quesadilla Rica
We decided to treat ourselves to dinner delivery (which of course doubles the cost of the meals but it was a Friday-date-night-in). I ordered the fajita salad with chicken and almost laughed when I opened the container, there was nothing to it and half of the menu’s ingredients were missing. I took a couple bites and literally had to throw it away (which I hate doing!) and make myself a salad of my own. The chicken was pure gristle and there no vegs…it was a very disappointing $20 salad to say the least. My husband ordered a combo platter and could only eat about 1/5 of it, it was honestly quite terrible. I can’t stand giving unkind-sounding reviews but I just can’t not be honest. The delivery came to $60 and we couldn’t even eat the food, sadly. I called the restaurant and was told I’d have to take it up with DoorDash. Really unhappy and will not be giving this restaurant a second chance… Service Delivery Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 1
My family loves this place! Since I don’t live in the area I only eat here when visiting and it never disappoints. My favorite dish is the choripollo. If you haven’t tried it yet then you are missing out! I love the vibe here too. The owners and employees are passionate about preparing and serving delicious authentic Mexican food with a customer service experience that only a local family owned business can provide. My husband and I ate at El Pobre recently and it was fantastic. We both had the fajitas. Portions were large and very tasty. Service was quick and friendly. Can't wait to go back soon to try some other items on their menu. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Order of Rice

Was very disappointed. Ate there once before and it was excellent! Today had to order upfront, served in to go containers and very expensive for what we got. Senior menu was no savings at all. So sad they went down hill so badly. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

What a wonderful restaurant!! What great food and what an amazing family running it! If you’re looking for the best Mexican food in Waynesville, this is the place! I tried the torta, and it was wonderful. My girlfriend loved her food as well. I like that it’s a family-run business. I’d give it 6 stars if I could. Jennifer and Ricardo are the best! Way overpriced imo. The place seems rundown and appears to be struggling to survive. Sad but true. Friendly waitress though. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1
