This place looks old from the outside, but the inside is sooo cute!! Their food is great and everyone there was really nice. I got birria tacos and it was great. I will definitely come back to try other menus. Great for date nights. Their iced vanilla latte was also good. It was like going to another place. My wife said it reminded her of the restaurants she went to in Mexico City. It's tucked back in the building, but lively. Very unassuming. The service, food and atmosphere were all great. My wife already had planned for us to go back. We went for breakfast, a bit late, but weren't sure they were still serving it. Apparently the whole menu is served all day, making it easy to choose what you want. Meal type Brunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Discada Burrito

I am always searching for new brunch spots that aren't like the rest, because I'll be honest, I'm not a huge eggy standard American breakfast person. Pretty typically if I go somewhere and there is a breakfast dish that involves some form of tortilla, I am IN. So, imagine my excitement when I found El Barril online! Tucked away in the quiet Union Square shopping centre, you will find El Barril awaiting with the most delicious Mexican breakfast delights! The atmosphere is so inviting. Upon walking in, you're met with contemporary decor and faux wisteria hanging from the ceiling. The room reads like a fresh and new modern cafe, and holds the secret of a menu that packs a delicious punch. I started with an iced caramel macchiato, and while I will sing the praises of the food, I will say that you can stand to skip out on this beverage. It was overly sweet and I could have done without it. As for the food, I chose to enjoy a classic Huevos Rancheros and my husband ordered the Huevos Divorciados. The massive homemade tortilla was such a star on the plate!! I wasn't anticipating such a large portion even though it does say GIANT TORTILLA on the menu, but the size of the dish did not suffer any flavor! It was so delicious and authentic. My husband enjoyed his dish as well, but did mention that he enjoyed a bite of my Huevos Rancheros a bit more due to the variety in texture on the plate. The Divorciados, as you can see in the photo, is very sauce heavy and could stand to include a little bit of something to offer a texture change. On the whole, I am so excited we made this discovery. I can't wait to return and enjoy the Huevos Rancheros over and over. Service Dine in Meal type Breakfast Price per person $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The food was so fresh and full of life!! What an amazing atmosphere and the people working there, are wonderful and beautiful. I would've never thought that such beautiful place existed right here in my backyard of Sandy, Utah. Thank you El Barril for such an amazing experience and for being in my life now. I'd recommend this place to all but I also invite culinary chefs of all walks to come and give it a try. For all who may visit soon, may the good spirit of the people of El Barril restaurant, permanently leave a positive impression on your first visit. Thank you for reading my review and many blessings to all. 💛🙏👊😎 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Visiting Salt Lake City, we found a great restaurant to end our trip! This was the gourmet style of Mexican breakfast, which was great. We had Original Chilaquiles and Huevos Encobijados 🤍We liked the Café de Olla which has cinnamon and brown sweet sugar. Service was friendly and attentive! Highly recommend 😊👍 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Enjoyed chilaquiles, birria tacos and the Chile relleno. Wonderful service. It won't be available instantaneously but they make it fresh. Services was great and the updated version is a beautiful spot. It seems like folks really love the breakfast - we found all of it was delicious. Chill, cozy and delicious. Brought my brother out here for lunch. Randomly popped up as a “hidden gem” on my Google maps and might I say that’s spot on. I ordered a Chipotle Burrito and my brother got a Chile Relleno Burrito. They serve a few Cervezas. Models, Corona and I think Pacifco. Meals were a little pricey but they were big portions. The waitress was super sweet and kept checking in on us! All around great Mexican good and good place to take a date or friend! Ordered the “Birria Chilaquiles Divorciados” it’s a big plate and it was super good! The restaurant is small it fills up quickly. The food didn’t take long to come out and the waiter was nice and kept checking up on us. It is more expensive than other spots I’ve been to that are similar. The only thing that I thought was overkill was they sell you the salsa.. that was annoying. Service Dine in Meal type Brunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
Not what it was. We will not be coming back. This WAS my favorite breakfast place, but no longer. I can not imagine why the owner completely revamped a local favorite into a generic grey shell with nothing of it former appeal- it’s like they were ashamed of having a local favorite restaurant. This WAS a local hotspot. It has been completely re-designed, the menu has changed. Prices have gone up, beyond reasonable. We used to love to come here for the crêpes, Now replaced it with some awful toast concoction. They used to have fresh juices which were fabulous and they’ve completely remove everything that once was good about this restaurant. We have been going here since the beginning, we will not be going back. Service Dine in Meal type Breakfast Price per person $10–20 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1
