They had delicious southern comfort food and our waitress was so nice! I had the four-veggie platter and my son had the ultimate grilled cheese which he absolutely loved. They also have Cheerwine! Bonus! We will definitely be back. 2/28/24 Still a family favorite! We like to come here to celebrate big events. Today I got an omelet and tomatoes & Macaroni and my son had the Philly cheese steak Sub. We both had chocolate pie for dessert! Delicious!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The food and service are both good. It’s friendly. It’s an old building and could use a little remodeling but otherwise it’s great! Good prices. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes Hamburger Steak

I discovered this restaurant after spending time at the Mayberry part of town. We came back to eat lunch here after riding our motorcycles up Pilot Mountain. The food was good and decently fast. It was a very busy place. Everyone enjoyed their food. It was good Ol’ comfort food and the place has interesting decor. We went with a pretty large number of people and was seated and waited on decently fast, considering the crowd they had. It is probably will return if I am back in the area. “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. The Derby is an institution in Mt. Airy, but I've only started coming here in the last year as my travels bring me to the area weekly. I haven't explored the menu as well as one might like because the lunch specials here (particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays) absolutely rule. My go-tos here (on Tuesday) are the baked ham (the best ever) and three vegetables, or the chopped steak with choice of potato and salad (I substitute a vegetable) with Texas toast, and on Wednesdays, they have an all-you-can-eat fried Flounder special that absolutely rocks. If you love fried fish, you'll love it, and it's the same breading that they use for their award-winning fried chicken, which is also good - but you have to allow for twenty minutes prep time - so if you're in a hurry, order the fish. Also, they have a wide array of sides available, I usually get the pickled beets, and the fried squash is dynamite along with the fried okra. I also love the macaroni with tomatoes, and last but not least, the macaroni and cheese. What's more, the service is usually good even when it's busy, and the prices just can't be beat. Me and my 4 year old daughter went for breakfast while out running errands.I got to say it was so nice. We loved the vibe and seating. Our waitress was super sweet. She had biscuits and gravy and about ate the plate she loved it so much. I got French Toast and sausage links with home fries. I wasn’t a fan of the taters they was too big of chunks for me. When we went to pay all the waitress would talk to my daughter and where so nice. The best part it feels like a small town in there, no one was a stranger and all so happy and pleasant. Definitely will be back
I'm not much of a rice fan but, the Tuesday Special Stew Beef with Rice and Gravy was really good! The beef is very tender. Also, I ordered the tossed salad which is just lettuce and added pickled beets and the Derby dressing. This went very well together. Our server Ms. Susie is one of the sweetest severs we have met. She will keep your coffee cup full. The hush puppies are very good. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20
