Oh now this is the ultimate treat in Jeffrey's Bay. The ambience, views and service was delightful. Food options are vast and probably the most Afrikaans menu in existence (English of course available too). The portion sizes are huge. We tried the Captain's platter for 2, which is probably for 3 or 4. If you like seafood, then definitely do not miss this lovely restaurant. The best restaurant in Jeffrey's hands down - the atmosphere, service, and food - all was top notch. We had lunch with a view, and our server was excellent. The wine menu is impressive, and my husband enjoyed his craft beer as well. I had the line fish of the day which was just perfect, and we also shared the popcorn bowl prawns. De Viswijf, what can I say – the best seafood we've ever had! For starters, we enjoyed the 6 oysters, by far the best I've tasted on our journey. For the main course, the Captain's Platter for 2 left nothing to be desired. Every element was flawlessly prepared, offering a symphony of flavors from the bountiful South African sea. The ambiance was beautiful, right by the sea with fantastic decor. We spent a delightful 2 hours, truly savoring a culinary experience. The cocktails and wine were exquisite, served perfectly to complement our meal. A big shoutout to Landi, our server, for her outstanding service and helpful suggestions that truly made our dining experience outstanding – she was professional, friendly, and incredibly welcoming. To top it off, this was our engagement celebration dinner. Whether you're in Jeffrey's Bay or just passing through, bypassing this seafood gem would be a culinary travesty. A return visit is a definite for us. The value for money was not just fair, it pleasantly surprised us. De Viswijf is a culinary haven that deserves every accolade it receives. Thank you! I believe this is the first restaurant I’ve felt compelled to leave a review at. Their food is next to none. Our waiter Kurchwin was incredible. Very easy going and yet helpful and new the menu and the drinks very well. I took his recommendation on the Lamb Ragu and it was by far and without a doubt the best flavor I have ever tasted at a restaurant. Exceedingly tender meat. Perfect texture in the noodles and the sauce was out of this world. They also have the absolute best calamari and escargot I’ve ever had and I am a snob when it comes to those appetizers. Of course after going once I had to go the next night as well. That is why I can also 100% recommend the oxtail. I grew up eating oxtail and this is the first time I have ever eaten oxtail at a restaurant that compared to the home cooked oxtail that your Caribbean grandmother makes. The atmosphere is also incredible. You can both hear and see the ocean while you eat your food by candlelight. Absolutely amazing service and food. Waitress was very accommodating to all our food changes and preferences. We even got a complimentary starter of delicious butternut soup and garlic bread.
