About
Coconut Grill, located next to the SCP Hotel in Hilo, is a Hawaiian establishment that serves up local cuisine at a reasonable price. The ambiance is laid-back and casual, perfect for weary travelers looking for a good meal. The interior design is a throwback to earlier times, with a true Hawaiian atmosphere that transports diners to another era. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from Lilikoi French Toast to Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict, and even Kalbi Sliders. For those looking for something heartier, the Surf n Turf and Kahuna Rib Eye Steak are sure to satisfy. The establishment also offers a range of cocktails, including the classic Mai Tai and Hawaii 5-0, as well as local craft beer on tap. One of the standout dishes is the Coconut Grill Prime Burger, which is reportedly the best angus burger one reviewer has ever had. The pork ribs and Lua platter are also highly recommended, as is the banana cream pie, which some have described as life-changing. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, with some reviewers praising their exceptional service. The establishment is wheelchair accessible and has ample parking nearby. While some have criticized the place for smelling like fried food, others have praised it for being a great local food joint. Overall, Coconut Grill is a fine dining spot that offers delicious Hawaiian cuisine at a reasonable price. With its laid-back ambiance, friendly service, and range of dishes and cocktails, it's definitely worth a visit for anyone in the Hilo area.

The food was good and our server was kind, but it took over an hour to get our food. We watched as other tables (who came after our party and were similar in size) were served and left before we even got our food. In the end, it was over a two hour breakfast experience, which left me unimpressed. We really liked this place. It was right next door to where we stayed. The food was good and had a lot of flavor. I had the boneless korean ribs and my wife had the black and Bleu Caesar salad. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Came at noon on a Monday. Pros: portion size, presentation, nice space between tables Average: burger was underseasoned, server couldn’t say much about the menu options because she hadn’t really tried them, price point is “island average” Cons: fries are priced seperately, pulled pork on the burger was cold, fried mahi mahi skewers had zero flavor, onion rings were overdone and cut your mouth. Delicious food with a local diner vibe! I got transported to my small kid time eating with my family in a chill diner. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This place has the best Mai Tai we have ever had, made with fresh juice and not purée. The food is also delicious. Friendly staff. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The food was quite expensive for the overall average experience. I found everything to be quite average at this place. The lack of coasters and the water just running on the table shows that they don't pay much attention to detail. However, I must say that I expected the shrimps (only 4 of them) to be too little food but in the end I was really full. We love this place for all 3 meals. Have visited multiple times and almost every time we have come to Hilo. Prices a little high but what is to be expected this close (walking distance) to the hotels. Beautiful scenery, though, during your walk. Erica was very attentive and friendly. Food always delicious and never too crowded. Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I finally returned to Coconut grill after a extended amount of time. Let me tell you it was worth the wait! I could tell by the menu immediately the food would be a million times better. Finally using quality ingredients and extremely well prepared plates! The food was amazing and I was extremely impressed by the food and the service! We came here during Merrie Monarch and surprisingly there was no wait. They had live entertainment outside it was a magical experience to say the least. I wouldn't mind coming back anytime. Ate here twice while visiting. First had the macadamia pancakes. Very delicious. Interesting batter makes for a fluffy cake yet crispy around the edges. Second I had the banana and rum waffle. Also very good, not as much rum sauce as I hoped but didn’t bother me. Service is nice. Sometimes you have to grab their attention, but everyone is friendly and helpful and eager to give you a great experience.
