Conveniently close to the ferry, open for breakfast from 8am until 8pm for dinner, and cash only. Good menu with reasonably priced plates and assuming as traditional as it gets around the area? Ate here twice, first with the bbq ribs which were smaller in portion for lunch but delicious. Came back a second time for dinner to have the grilled pork and portion was more than generous although a bit dry. The young man who greeted me the first time was such a sweet person. The woman who attended both times seemed encumbered when I entered, then asked to pay, and even more unenthused when I didn’t have small bills (maybe this was at the start of the day but I was the only one there for lunch..)
We ate at Cocina de Mami twice during our stay in Ometepe, and the food was delicious both times. Also, the prices are very cheap, and the owner and her son are super friendly!
Tons of grizzle on the steak. They seemed put off that we ordered lunch at 11:30am instead of breakfast. Jalapeno chicken is basically really pounded chicken with a bechamel and one slice of a pickled jalapeno.
Not that bad, but not good either.
Breaded chicken: too salted, only possible to eat when mixed with salad and rice
Omelette: this one really good
Chicken fajita: too much fat
Woman, who works there in a very bad mood
Mamas Kitchen is the place to eat in Moyogalpa, and is so much more than what meets the eye. Serving a wide variety of dishes incorporating traditional Nicaraguan foods, mamas food is absolutely delicious and such good value for money! It is perfect for travellers and non travellers and you can easily get a drink and a main for $3-4. The food is executed perfectly, bursting with flavour and presented in a lovely way. Top experience, would highly recommend!
