What happened to Chart House? This place used to be amazing food, service and atmosphere. Our most recent visit was not good- we will not be coming back. Salad was not fresh. Also had something extremely spicy mixed in that was tasted every few bites. Steak was dry. Crab dip was more like cheese dip with a couple pieces of crab. Their amazing lava cake is no more lava- dry. Domino’s lava cakes are better than what they’re serving now. Very disappointing considering this used to be the “it” place. The prices are just ridiculous for what is being served anymore. I would be fine paying $200+ for a nice dinner but Outback would have been worth more. It was a beautiful, unseasonably warm Sunday afternoon -- perfect day for a walk along the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria VA with my son. Even more perfect was sitting down for a delicious meal at the Chart House. We had visited the chart House on the Philadelphia waterfront a couple of times, so we knew we were in for a treat. This location did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, great menu, great food, and incredible service! The Kim Chee Calamari was an amazing start! It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the portion was generous. My Alaska Cod exceeded my expectations and my son thoroughly enjoyed his Baked Stuffed Crab. Everything was well-presented and though the prices were on the higher side, the quality of both the food and service made it well worth the investment. We'll surely return. I went here for a work dinner and I must say I was thoroughly impressed with this restaurant. It is an upscale seafood and steak restaurant with exceptional service. It is right by the water in old town and their seafood is really fresh! What I had: Lobster-tails & Seasonal Marinated Grilled Vegetables NY Strip 14 Oz with 3 Potato Garlic Mashed I would describe it as a sophisticated waterfront restaurant, they don’t have a dress code but I would recommend dressing semi formal when dining here. This restaurant is perfect for work dinners, date night or a boujee girls night out! It is a yearly tradition for the men in our family to go to the Chart House after Christmas for a seafood lunch extravaganza. It really is a wonderful time except for the fact that I really don't enjoy seafood at all, even from a fine dining establishment like Chart House. We used to go down to the fish market at the Wharf before it was the Wharf and essentially eat raw fish out of the Potomac, so I suppose things have improved slightly over the years. Nevertheless, you've heard enough about my life and need to hear more about Chart House. Overall, it's a great place. We typically come here around lunch time on a weekday so it's often very, very quiet, which is nice. Their lunch menu is pretty thin but our waiter told us last time we were there that the kitchen can actually cook everything on the dinner menu except for the Prime Rib and the baked potatoes (or something similar), which was actually a nice surprise. If you're a seafood lover, this place is pretty good. My crew always orders the raw oysters and claims that they are very good. I've had a few and can't say the same, but that's a personal preference. We also always order the calamari plate which, even for a non-seafoodie like me, is actually really good. Unfortunately, for me, the appetizers really are the best part of the experience. Again, I'm approaching this from the perspective of someone who really doesn't enjoy seafood, which I think is actually pretty good. The other non-seafood options are really just okay. I've tried the burger and the Caesar salad a few different times and every one of those times I've just been left with a shrug and a quick bout of gas for my time. There's nothing inherently wrong with the meal, it's just okay. The restaurant itself, which is situated right on the Potomac, is pretty cool. If you can get a spot by the window, super easy if you go during the lunch hour, you really do get a great view of the river. Not that the river itself is an exceptionally beautiful thing to look at, but it's better than nothing I suppose. The salad bar isn't open during the lunch hour, which is a shame because that seems like it would be pretty cool. The staff has always been incredibly helpful, attentive and kind. Maybe it's because we've been like the only 6 people in the restaurant, but I've always enjoyed my experiences with them. Our waiter this last visit even encouraged me to not order an extra side of fries because the one would be enough to share. I appreciate a waiter who looks out for my bill and my weight. The food is not cheap. Expect to pay over $20 a plate. All in all, well worth the visit, especially if you enjoy seafood.
