My wife and I ate at Captain Herman's with some friends while staying on the East End.
The place was basic, had outdoor seating with choices of covered and uncovered behind the order window. The eating area had full ocean view.
All the food was really good and fresh. It was very reasonably priced for Cayman. The local to tourist ration was probably 4 to 1 so this is definitely a place that locals prefer.
We enjoyed watching the sunset and watching sharks swim around in the shallows behind the restaurant.

Fried Fish
The BEST conch fritters. We also had barracuda for the first time with fried plantains. We returned a second time for the sweet and sour fish. I LOVE that the dishes come with sides, some restaurants need to take note. I was overcharged but they corrected the issue once I brought it up, so just double check your bill if you're paying in USD. Decent food overall.

Wonderful place, staff was so helpful there are lots of nice locals who eat here. The ocean view is beautiful and the food is super affordable, definitely the best meal we had on the island. I recommend the lemon butter shrimp, and if your feeling adventurous the barracuda is delicious, definitely coming back!

Butter Lemon Shrimp
Authentic island foods, shaded patio seating and reasonable prices. Stopped here on our way back from Georgetown. Hoping that Turtle Stew was on the menu - nope, but Goat Curry was!
Our party of four likes to try different foods so we usually order three different meals and an appetizer or two. Here we started with Conch Fritters and Conch Soup. Fritters were excellent and huge, biggest we’ve had on the island. Soup was also great but I would like a bit more heat.
For meals we ordered the Goat Curry, Cayman Style Beef and Fried Grouper. Grouper was great, crisp and juicy. Goat Curry was flavorful but I added hot sauce. Hit of the meal was the CI Style Beef. Very tasty with clear spices and some heat.
Charming spot you should check out.

My wife and I ate here two if our four dinners while visiting the Cayman's last week. The best value in food on the island. The first night we had sweet and sour fish, it was Mahi and was great. My favorite meal was the whole fried snapper the following night. The ladies who operate this business are there to make you feel special, and you appreciate the Cayman hospitality.

Captain Herman Fish fry is a beautiful experience for everyone to visit.
You can even take your dog to have a day put there.
The food is excellent, service is good, and there are nice little hut areas to sit and eat while watching the beautiful sea. Prices are good, they take card and have free wifi🤩
Nice and quiet area with good parking location. You can even park and watch the sunset at this location if you like.
Do take a drive out and enjoy some lunch at the fish fry. You will love it.
A must visit if you are coming to the Cayman Islands.

Conch Soup
This is a local joint located on the East side in Grand Cayman. It is pretty much a takeout place but there were some outdoor picnic type tables around. We stopped to try some local dishes with my wife getting baked fish and I got the turtle stew. Yes, I ate turtle as it was a local thing. Honestly the turtle meat was very good, much like roast. However, I was not a fan of the turtle stew as they use other parts of the turtle that just didn’t go well for me. My wife’s fish and vegetables were great though and they offered a variety of fried fish such as Wahoo and Snapper. Their prices were below what we were used to seeing in Cayman with the most expensive dish being around $15 Cayman. I think my wife and I both ate there for about $30US (no drinks). Note all prices were in Cayman dollars. As of this writing the exchange was $1CI = $1.25US. Thus, you will pay more than the menu prices if you pay in US dollars. Also note that most places in the Caymans add a gratuity of around 15% which is shared among the entire staff. You then can add or not depending on your situation to be given directly to your server. If you are looking for something to pick up for the room, then definitely give this place a try, especially with the fried fish.

This is not a fancy place by any means but if you want to try local food then do stop by. The fried red snapper fish was delicious. Shrimp in coconut curry was well seasoned to cooked perfectly. Everything is served in Togo box.
