This place has been our go to since we’ve lived in Hamden. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is very comfortable. The only reason they get 4 stars for service is because they make it right when they mess up, otherwise it’s a 3. We were there in July and the waitress served us our appetizers and forgot our main dish even though she took the order. She came and asked what we wanted for dessert and we never got our meal yet. Tonight the waiter forgot our appetizers. In July we got one of our appetizers for free and tonight we were given a discount. Cafe Amici is everything I expect from an Italian restaurant. The staff is very friendly and professional. Inside and outside are kept clean. Atmosphere is very family friendly. To put a cherry in top, the food is phenomenal. I will definitely be returning for another meal sometime in the future. Located on Whitney Ave across the street from Wells Fargo or Walgreens. There is no direct highway to get there. If you're on Rt15 take exit 61. If you're on I91 take exit 5, or exit 10>40 connector>exit 1. Do yourself a favor and make the drive. It's well worth it. Great family style Italian restaurant. Ordered the specialty chicken risotto & the veil saltimbocca. Both delicious. The attire was relaxed and the place was busy on a Sunday night. Service was friendly. Food was delicious. Value was fair. I felt like 4 stars feels right, as it's not a destination restaurant. But it is a fantastic local Cafe. For a restaurant with such great reviews, I’m appalled by the experience we had! The restaurant was freezing cold (their thermostat read 62 degrees), the grating cheese was visibly moldy, my pasta was undercooked (beyond Al dente) and we had to ask for bread. We wanted to enjoy our dinner but the amount of issues we faced was disconcerting! Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1

We just had our business , anual Christmas party with 40 people and I couldn’t be happier with everything! The food was outstanding, the service excellent and the place warm and welcoming!! 1st time at Amici's. Went to celebrate a friend's special occasion. The waitstaff catered to us the moment we entered the place. We had a rather large group (10+ppl). All the drink orders were correct. The food orders were all correct. Were able to bring our outside dessert for the special occasion. Made friend's with the diners in the back room with us. We called ahead to make a reservation, at least an hour notice. We arrived on time and still had to wait over 20 minutes for a table. Even getting inside was difficult, many doors that opened directly to someone’s table. Even when you found the right one you had trouble finding the cramped hostess podium. After waiting for the table we reserved, we were sat at a tiny high top in the middle of all the foot traffic, right next to the bar and kitchen. On top of this not being a handicap accessible table(we had two handicapped individuals in our party) the table was really two non-matching tables slid together in such a way that left very large gaps in the already very small surface given for a party of four. We only decided to leave when the hostess was entirely unapologetic and informed us we would not be able to get an accessible table for another hour. The bathrooms were nice though. Tonight at Cafe Amici was awesome. The two awesome bartender David and Regina made me feel welcome. My baby clams in a light wine butter sauce was amazing with crusty bread. And my two esposados on the rocks was made perfectly. The atmosphere was great vibration and energy was awesome. As a woman sitting alone I felt safe and comfortable. I will be going there again. Best Italian I've had in a while. We've only been twice but both times the staff and food were outstanding. A little expensive, but honestly what isn't these days, the food portions are generous and delish.
