Overall, it was very good. I degraded the rating for a couple of things. The style was unlike anything we have ever had in Europe, so it is hard to adjust to. The service is much like European style, very hands off. That kinda goes with the German restaurant style, but it was also a little annoying trying to get attention. First, the potato pancakes. The flavor was good, and they were done well. The sauce on top was almost like a horseradish, and then there was apple sauce on the side. Was not a big fan of sauce, and never taisted something like that before. The two flavors didn't combine well. The schnitzel was incredible. Very original. The sauce was a little weak and not enough. It was over potato salad, which was warm. The flavor of the salad was very different and, again, warm, unusual. The spatzle was very different. Large long clumps. There was also spinach in it, slightly overcooked. The flavor was good, but the size and spinach really threw us off. The food was very well cooked and everything did taste good. It is definitely worth going to, but be aware it is a little different than the traditional German food we were used to. We did live in Germany for 8 years. The place was clean. The staff were friendly. The place is crowded and they have a center table that is pretty European. Basically one long table that everyone sits at, not really separated, so be prepared for that. We visited BRONWYN (I have no idea why they capitalize their whole name.) Friday because October calls for German food. I love German food and there aren’t a lot of German restaurants around. I’ve been there before, but this was a wonderful visit. We started with the pretzel, big soft and covered with course salt. It comes with a very nice horseradish mustard, spicy but not overwhelming. For an up charge you can also get beer cheese, but I greatly prefer the mustard. They were celebrating Oktoberfest, but I’m not much of a beer drinker, so I started with a cocktail. They have a variation on a Negroni called Czech Yourself, made with Czech fernet, gin, and Campari. Although I’m mostly Irish-German, I do have some Czech ancestry and as you well know I’m a gin guy, so I had to try it. Very nice, I actually preferred it it to the traditional Negroni. After that I had a couple glasses of Austrian Grüner Veltliner. I’m not Austrian. For dinner we split the Spätzle and the Schnitzel. The spätzle is larger than I’m used to but nicely browned and served with spinach and onions. You can add a sausage to it if you like. We added a bratwurst. This dish is delicious but huge. I took some home, and it heats up nicely in a frying pan the next day.The schnitzel was also excellent. It is topped with a mushroom cream sauce and served with warm, bacony potato salad. I would get both of these dishes again with no hesitation. I’d even get the spätzle to go because it reheats so well. For dessert, we had the Apflestrudel, apples and golden raisins stuffed into a pastry and topped with buttermilk whipped cream. With it, I had a shot of Jäegermeister, which I didn’t shoot, I sipped. The staff was dressed in traditional German attire and the small space was decorated for Oktoberfest. There aren’t many seats and it’s crowded, but definitely charming. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was casual. It was a relaxing feast. Union Square is about the worst place to park, but once you find a spot everything is great! I’m excited to go back to try the sauerbraten and of course more of their haus sausages. Price per person $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Schnitzel

In Boston for the weekend and my daughter suggested we try this German restaurant that was across the street from the axe throwing venue we went to. The menu is not as extensive as the German restaurant I frequent in Columbia, but the food is well prepared and very tasty. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with authentic German decor and items. The chairs and table seemed very authentic amd the chairs were very comfortable. The price is right, so I would definitely try this spot out again if I wanted German food when in the Boston area. Hearty food, awesome beer, great vibes. The warm, slightly salty bretzel was my favourite! I am not usually a beer person but quite enjoyed a lager that the server recommended (the most popular beer on the menu). Schnitzel was a tad dry but had a great mushroom sauce. Stepping into this restaurant is like stepping into a different world. The decor is super fun and inviting. We got two 3-course Oktoberfests to try as much as possible. I will note that individually the plates were on the smaller side for the US but as a full dinner this was the right amount of food. The schnitzel was my favorite of everything I’ve tried - extremely crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. It pairs very well with the German potato salad. This was followed by the potato pancake and German apple cake which I was pulling large slices of apple out of. The braised beef fell apart in a beautiful way but I was not a huge fan of the cherry sauce. The service was quick and our waitress was very sweet. We went during the Fluff Fest which also happens to coincide with Oktoberfest. They served a pretzel and fluff rimmed beer to celebrate the occasion and it was far more tasty than it may sound. We dined on the best Spätzle with a side of of sausage and it was delicious. The menu is full of authentic German food from schnitzel to sauerbraten.
