Stopped by Black's while on the way back to San Antonio from Austin. It was my first visit. What a great place. This is what I think of when I think of TX barbecue. The brisket and ribs were awesome. The sausage was a bit dry for my liking but had good flavor. The potato salad and beans were good as well. The folks behind the counter were friendly and quick getting my food. I really liked the feel of the place. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a stop! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
In my opinion, still the best brisket in town :) it was so good!! 👌 I decided to try the jalapeño sausage and found it to be dry, so I wouldn't recommend it. The side are all delicious 😋 between us, we had pickles, mash, Mac & cheese, and creamed corn! One of the best BBQ places in Texas. Might crack the top 3 because there were so many cute cats roaming around out back. Amazing atmosphere and meat. 100% Recommend! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Brisket and Ribs
The sides are not that fresh. We ate around 5:30 pm. (Mean dinner time) Green beans do not have a good flavor just oil and garlic, no salt no pepper. The brisket was not so bad but I wanna give a compliment it was not fresh too. Maybe it is better at lunchtime.
Overall a great experience. The staff for the most part were a lot of fun. Enjoyed the perfect evening on the deck. My only real complaint was I ordered lean brisket to go and got home to a lot of fatty parts. I'm not one to eat that part of the brisket so I felt like I wasted a little money. The flavor was good. The cole slaw was top notch! Tasted like what I grew up on. Price per person $20–30 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Brisket and Ribs

Another disappointing visit to another "BLACK'S BBQ" location. This location, in San Marcos, proudly displaying "Kent Black's BBQ", was friendly upon entering and helpful describing sides and desserts. The slicers even threw in some burnt ends after they served us up! Even the terrific Texas bbq ambiance and great service couldn't make up for the totally bland green beans and lackluster meats. I think those green beans are possibly the worst side I've ever had...straight out of a can and into a warmer? The brisket was tender w a big ol' strip of rendered fat, but not a lot of smoke flavor. Pork ribs were better, but nothing to write home to mom about. Coleslaw was not memorable. I did think the pecan pie was good! All in all, wont be returning to another "BLACK'S BBQ " location. 🤷‍♂️ Sorry, at over $100 for two people, it's just not worth it. I really was looking forward to trying this place. Excited enough we planned a trip out there. The service was good, and the atmosphere was typical for a bbq joint. We tried the lean and moist brisket, baby backs, mac and cheese and the beans. I really hope it was an off day, but very disappointed in the the whole experience. The brisket was very dry, and the ribs had a good chew but just lacked flavor. The beans were very salty. Hopefully it was an off random day, but definitely not worth the hype. First time visiting a Black's BBQ, my husband had been wanting to come here for years and we finally had the opportunity and it did not disappoint!, We are a family of 4, 2 little picky eaters a boy did they devoured everything!, we had the smoked chicken, the brisket and the ribs, everything was so tender juicy and delicious! for the sides we picked coleslaw, beens, rice, potatoe salad and mac&cheese, let me tell ya, I don't and have never liked mac&cheese BUT I loved this one! so creamy 😋. We'll definitely be back when in San Marcos again and recommend it 👌. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Brisket and Ribs
While in town for business we decided to give this BBQ place a try as it came highly recommended from our friends. This being our first visit we didn’t know what to expect. So for those of you who have never been you don’t go up to the counter and order then have a seat. You pick your side dishes and dessert if you like. Then you pick your meat you would like. There are no plate dishes you order. You just pick what you like. I will say the guys cutting the meat that day were not the friendliest- but maybe they were just having a bad day. Despite their less than welcoming demeanor everything else was great. The ribs and brisket were amazing. I loved the Mac & cheese! The decor is right in line with the food.
